The three directors traveled to the Somuncurá Meseta in Argentina and filmed their own journey, the people they met, the conflicts they learned about. When Emmanuel first approached me in 2019, they had a rough cut called Kamaruko and a lot of material, but no real idea of what this movie should look like. Kamaruko was kind of a window opener, a lot of people portrayed , but I wasn't able to understand their story, who they are, what the directors wanted to tell.
I started looking at all the material. What I found was an atmosphere of diaspora, people without words, some with a need for them, some without, some with strong voices. I started to group the directors wishes about what they wanted to tell into chapters, and cut out the atmosphere, the loose words, the single moments, and asked them to describe the other part of the iceberg in their voiceover.
Campo Abierto is a visual poem, inspired by Cao Guimarães' Film "Acidente".
